Mayor Fitzroy Wilson, Port Maria

Councillor Fitzroy Wilson, a dedicated member of the People’s National Party (PNP), was sworn in as the new Mayor of Port Maria and Chairman of the St Mary Municipal Corporation (SMMC) on March 7, 2024. Representing the Boscobel Division, Mayor Wilson emerged victorious over his Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) counterpart in the recent Local Government Election, signaling a shift in leadership within the parish.

In his inaugural address, Mayor Wilson emphasized his commitment to collaboration, urging all 12 councillors of the SMMC to prioritize the interests of the people of St Mary over partisan politics. Acknowledging the contributions of the previous JLP-led administration, he vowed to build on their achievements and continue existing development projects.

Mayor Wilson has called for unity among local representatives, administrative staff, and state agencies to address the pressing needs of the parish. His vision is to restore St Mary to its former status as a peaceful and thriving community, emphasizing teamwork, inclusivity, and progress.

As a leader, Mayor Wilson balances humility with determination, recognizing the importance of drawing from the experience of his predecessor, Richard Creary, and collaborating across political lines to achieve meaningful results. His commitment to good governance, unity, and the betterment of St Mary sets the tone for his term as mayor.
